What is an Extended Warranty Program (EWP)?
An Extended Warranty Program (EWP), sometimes called a vehicle service contract, is a protection plan that helps cover the cost of repairing specified mechanical or electrical components after the manufacturer's warranty expires, subject to defined terms, conditions, and limits.
Why do car owners need an EWP?
As a vehicle ages and mileage increases, the risk and cost of mechanical breakdowns rise. An EWP helps car owners manage these unexpected repair expenses more predictably, instead of facing large, unplanned bills.
How is an EWP different from my manufacturer's warranty?
A manufacturer's warranty is bundled with a new vehicle and covers defects in materials or workmanship for a limited time or mileage. An EWP is purchased separately and is designed to continue protection for defined components after the manufacturer's warranty ends.
Is an EWP the same as motor insurance?
No. Motor insurance primarily covers accident-related losses such as collision damage, theft, fire, and third-party liabilities, and basic motor insurance is also compulsory under the Malaysian Road Transport Act (RTA) for all vehicles on public roads. An EWP focuses on the cost of repairing or replacing covered mechanical and electrical components due to unexpected breakdowns, not accidents.
Who is behind the BaseGuard Extended Warranty Program (EWP)?
The BaseGuard Extended Warranty Program is designed and managed by eAutoGen and is underwritten by an insurance company, combining operational support from eAutoGen with the financial security of insurer-backed coverage.
